Will's journey into the land of solids began on Easter Sunday, when he got a little too close to a sugar cookie, as seen below.
When my aunt Lisa saw that picture she commented that it looks like Will is seeing God for the first time. Maybe so.
Anyway, I took the hint and decided to introduce Will to solid foods. I'm currently making the baby food on my own, which may prove to be a little too ambitious. But for now, given the one-or-two-meals-a-day and no-new-foods-for-three-days rules, it's going okay. We began with sweet potatoes. When it was clear that all we were going to eat was about 1/16th of a teaspoon, we decided to just play with them instead.
Then it was on to bananas, which, for a time, seemed like they might be a hit. That time has passed.
And finally, today I offered Will some avocado, which was by far our biggest failure yet.
I literally had to scoop the avocado out of his mouth because it definitely wasn't going anywhere. Will found the whole thing quite upsetting.
I'm not sure where our journey will lead from here. In theory, he will someday be scooping small pieces of food into his mouth, chewing, and swallowing. He'll drink from a sippy cup and have three square meals a day. He'll snack on Cheerios. He'll eat sugar cookies.
Until then, breast remains the best.
